Gastroscopy, for example, is carried out to help diagnose stomach ulcers. Colonoscopy plays an important role in the early detection of colon cancer. It is also possible to remove so-called polyps during this procedure. These minimally invasive surgical procedures are carried out using the most sophisticated endoscopic equipment available and in a secluded area, which is regarded as comfortable by patients. Therefore, many patients who looked upon these procedures with unjust fear and trepidation end up leaving our hospital with much better memories.

The process of an endoscopic examination

The examination is undertaken as an inpatient procedure requiring only a short admission of less than 24 hours.

The procedure generally involves only a brief period of anesthesia (sedoanalgesia). As a result, the procedure will be painless and without unpleasant sensations.

The Center for Endoscopy is one of few Austrian endoscopy centers validated. The validation was carried out in 2009 and relates to the preparation (cleaning, disinfection, etc.) of flexible endoscopes for examinations and procedures in accordance with ÖNORM EN ISO 15 883.

“Gentle” gastroscopy and colonoscopy

At Graz Ragnitz Private Hospital we take pride in making your gastroscopy and colonoscopy painless by employing an especially gentle technique. This means that the procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic combined with a sedative (premed), which enables all procedures to be carried out painlessly in a pleasant atmosphere – either as part of an overnight stay or as an outpatient intervention.
